What are the eleven sites being assessed for GNEP?
In addition to the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant, the other ten sites where GNEP assessment evaluations are being conducted include Atomic City, ID; Barnwell, SC; Hanford Site, Hobbs, NM; Idaho National Laboratory, ID; Morris, IL; Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TN; Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, KY;  Roswell, NM, and Savannah River National Laboratory, SC.

Why was Portsmouth selected?
SONIC responded to a Federal Opportunity Announcement (FOA) in September of 2006 and was one of 11 sites selected to perform a Detailed Siting Study. In the FOA response, SONIC proposed the Portsmouth DOE Reservation at Piketon for evaluation in the siting study.

Can I see a copy of the GNEP proposal that SONIC submitted to DOE?
The proposal is available on our website.

Is there a way I can submit comments about GNEP?
Public comment is always encouraged during a siting evaluation study. Comments regarding the Environmental Impact Statement for GNEP study at PORTS should be forwarded to Mr. Timothy Frazier, U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy, 1000 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, DC, 20585-0119, Fax 866.645.7807, GNEP-PEIS@nuclear.energy.gov.
