Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP) Siting Study

SONIC has been chosen to receive a Federal Opportunity Announcement (FOA) grant to perform a Detailed Siting Study of the capability of the DOE site at Piketon to host GNEP facilities. This Detailed Siting Study is to address the potential of siting two GNEP facilities at Piketon:

  • An advanced nuclear fuel recycling center, which is capable of separating used nuclear fuel into its reusable and waste components

  • Advanced recycling reactor, which would destroy long-lived radioactive elements in the fuel while generating electricity.
